Our Stamped Concrete Tile System Class is held the day before the Ashby System Class in case you want to attend both in one trip. The tile class is taught by Gerry Sadleir. Gerry was inducted into the Decorative Concrete Hall of Fame in 2011.
The cost to enroll in the 1 day Tile System Class only is $199 per person. If you will be attending the 2 or 3 day Ashby System Class you may attend the tile system class for free. After the class, each attendee will be given a training manual, certificate, and free access to downloadable how-to videos about the tile system.

Choose the pattern and quantity of stamped concrete tile molds you would like to purchase. The molds are reusable over and over again and will last for many years. One mold will make up to two tiles per day if you pour once in the morning and once in the afternoon. The more molds you have the faster you can make tiles. To calculate how many tiles you will need for your job, divide the square footage of the job by 5 square feet for the Ashlar Slate Tile and by 6 square feet for the Random Stone Tile. Example: A 200 sq. ft. walkway divided by 5 would require approximately 40 Ashlar Slate Tiles. Figure 10% extra for a total of 44 tiles to allow for waste when cutting pieces to fit around walls and edges. If you had 12 molds you could make 24 tiles per day. Each tile takes about 2 minutes to make. To make 12 tiles at a time only requires a 4’x4’ space when using our 12 shelve tile rack. Instructions are available on how to build your own.

Note: For each kit of Tile Admix you will need to mix one 47 lb. bag of Portland Cement and one 50 lb. bag of Play Sand available at Home Depot. Iron oxide powder pigments for coloring regular concrete or Roll-Top Cement. Available in 40 colors. See the Davis Color Chart below or request a color chart be mailed to you for better accuracy. You can also use your local iron oxide pigments or liquid concrete colors from a concrete supply store. Add one ounce at a time of the color pigment chosen while mixing Roll-Top with water and a mixing drill. Have the color chart available while mixing to check the color in the Roll-Top pail with the color on the chart. Add more color one ounce at a time as needed until you achieve the color on the chart.

Used as the topcoat sealer over the tiles, Roll-Top cement, and Color Antique Powder to provide a durable stain resistant finish. Apply two coats using an acetone resistant pump-up sprayer. The first coat can be thinned 1 to 1 with acetone. The second coat can be thinned 3 parts sealer to 1 part acetone.

A concentrated release oil to be mixed with 100% mineral spirits in order to create a tile mold release agent. Mix 4 oz. of Release Oil with 1 gallon of 100% mineral spirits. Rub a small amount on each mold using a cotton rag 10-15 minutes prior to pouring the tile admix into the mold. This will make it easier to remove the tiles from the molds. Do not leave tiles in the molds for more than 24 hours. The molds will peel off the tiles the easiest within 6-12 hours. One 8 oz. bottle of Release Oil will be enough to make up to 2000 sq. ft. of tiles (approx. $0.01 per sq. ft.).

Besides being used as an adhesive for the tiles, Tile Adhesive is also used to fill any cracks and joints in the area where the tiles will be laid. Measure how many linear feet of cracks and joints there are and order extra Tile Adhesive as needed. One 1 1/2 gallon kit will fill up to 180 lin. ft. of cracks or joints 1/4” wide x 1/2” deep. Mix Tile Adhesive with 1 part #30 or finer silica sand for cracks under 1/4” wide, or play sand for cracks 1/4” or wider to create a semi-pourable patching mix.
Before ordering extra Tile Adhesive, check to see if you already have enough with the amount you ordered to lay your tiles. For example, if you only needed enough Tile Adhesive to lay 100 sq. ft. of tiles, but you had to order a 1 1/2 gallon kit which covers 135 sq. ft., you may already have enough left over to fill your cracks and joints.
